We provide both telephone and face-to-face advice, and we also attend community venues across the city to help as many people as possible. Dates and times for our drop-ins can be found on our social media pages.
We can support with a range of debt related issues, including but not limited to:
- Rent and mortgage arrears
- Council Tax arrears
- Utilities (gas, electricity, water)
- Credit debts (credit cards, loans, overdrafts)
- Parking Charges
- County Court Judgments
- Magistrates Court fines
- Car finance/hire purchase
- Benefit overpayments
It doesn’t matter how much you owe; we’ve seen it all before and we are not here to judge you. If you’ve been holding off on getting help because you have no money to pay your debts, you may still have options, and we can talk you through these.
Getting help
How we will support you
- Once you have emailed or called us for help, we will aim to get back to you within 48 hours.
- A member of the team will call you to carry out an initial assessment. If required, you will be booked in for an appointment with one of our advisors.
- Your appointment will either take place over the phone or face-to-face, whichever is best for you. This usually takes around 1 hour.
- During your appointment, we will discuss your debts, complete a breakdown of your income and expenditure, and advise you on what options you have for managing your debts. Your options may range from arranging affordable payment plans, to writing debts off through insolvency.
- Following your appointment, our advisors can contact your creditors (the people you owe money to) on your behalf if you need them to. They can also assist you with putting your chosen debt solution into place, should you require help with this.

Potteries MoneyWise is a project within Citizens Advice Staffordshire North & Stoke-on-Trent. We are part of the Money Advice team working alongside the Citizens Advice Community Debt team.
Our project specialises in offering budgeting, and energy advice to individuals and workshops to community groups, employees and frontline staff. Alongside our service we can refer clients to the debt team for specialist debt advice and services offered by Citizens Advice or our partners.

Consumer
Our consumer team consists of two departments; General Consumer and Energy. We are here to support you whether you are a business or private individual and can help with any issues you may face relating to goods, services or energy.
Core Services
We are currently offering a multitude of different services to support the people of Staffordshire North and Stoke-on-Trent. This ranges from support around benefit issues, through to legal support, as well as much more.
Debt
Our debt team provides advice to clients from across the whole of England. This is primarily done through a telephone service, but we also offer web chat and emails. Our team take inbound calls each day; giving some discreet one-off advice, as well as continuing with any ongoing casework needed for more complex cases.
Outreach
We offer multiple outreach services to support you around Staffordshire North and Stoke-on-Trent, to ensure wherever you are you can receive support.
